Family portal settings

This article covers the settings side of the Family Portal: the switch that turns it on for your firm, and where invites and visibility are controlled. For what a family actually sees and does once inside, see Sharing with the family.

Turning it on

Under Your Company, open the Concierge tab. At the top is Family Portal, with a single switch: Allow families to access case details via the portal.

This is a firm-wide setting. While it is off, nobody at your firm can invite a family to the portal, no matter what is on an individual case. Turn it on once, then save, and it applies to every case from that point on.

Inviting a family

Invites happen from inside a case, not from Your Company. Use Invite Family on the case, either sending the invite by email or copying the link to send yourself. The invite goes to the contact email on the case, so that field is worth checking before you send it.

You can invite more than one person to the same case, with different roles such as Executor or Trusted contact.

Choosing what is visible

There is no per-document or per-field switch to configure: the portal shows a fixed, deliberately narrow set of information for every case, the Details, Documents and Schedule tabs described in Sharing with the family. What changes case by case is what you have actually added, since a family only sees documents you have shared and services you have entered.

In practice, this means visibility is controlled by what you put on the case rather than by a separate settings screen: leave a service off the schedule, or a document unshared, and a family will not see it.

Revoking access

To remove a family member’s access to a case, remove them from the case itself rather than from Your Company. If you need to stop family access to every case at once, use the master toggle in the Concierge tab described above.
